Construction work on check dam kicked off in Badghis

KABUL: Construction work on a check dam worth 200,000 U.S. dollars, in an official ceremony, has been kicked off in the country’s western province of Badghis, according to a videotape on Radio Television of Afghanistan (RTA) on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by several provincial scholars, officials, and elders, the statement said, adding the check dam will be built with the financial support of the Children’s Protection Charity Foundation in the Qads district of the province. Head of the foundation, Jalaluddin Wardak said that the dam would store 48,000 cubic meters of water and provide drinking water for thousands of people in the district, according to the statement. Expressing pleasure, a resi dent of the district said there are about 5,000 families in the neighboring villages of the check dam who have been facing drinking water shortages for several years, and with the successful completion of the dam, their challenges would be solved.
