Commercial goods from China arrived in Afghanistan

MAZAR-I-SHARIF: A consignment train carrying commercial goods from China arrived at Hairatan ground port on Monday after crossing Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) said in a statement Monday. According to the statement, the freight train, with 22 wagons, was filled with commercial goods. Director of Afghanistan Railway Authority Bakht-urRahman Sharafat said that connecting Afghanistan with other countries through a railway line can accelerate the country’s quest for self-sufficiency. “The economic development of Afghanistan is connected with the countries of the region and at whatever level Afghanistan develops, the benefits reach the countries of the region and it is necessary for the countries of the region to participate in the development of Afghanistan,” the statement quoted him. Meanwhile, Hekmatullah Rahmatov, assistant of the Uzbekistan Railways Adminis tration said: “I am grateful for the invitation of Afghanistan Railways Authority and I assure you that we are doing our best to facilitate the process of transporting goods.” He called the transfer of commercial goods important in the history of the railway and emphasized the expansion of the transfer of commercial goods through the railway. Last year, an agreement for the transfer of commercial goods from China to Afghanistan was signed between officials of the IEA, China, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. According to officials, 42 containers of commercial goods have so far reached Afghanistan from China through this economic corridor. The Kabul Times
