China to train Afghan technical personnel in mining sector, ambassador

KABUL: In a meeting with the acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Shaikh Shahabuddin Delawar, here in Kabul, the Chinese Ambassador to Kabul Zhao Xing, said that his country is committed to building the capacity of Afghan technical personnel in the mining sector, the ministry said in a statement Wednesday. Both sides, in the meeting, also discussed the extraction of the Mes Aynak copper mine in Logar and oil in the Amu Darya oil field, according to the statement. “The daily extraction of 1,400 tons of oil from the Amu Darya, the drilling of 20 new oil wells this year, and the efforts to start practical work on the Aynak copper mine are examples of the productive work of Chinese contracted companies in these two important mines in the country,” the statement quoted Shaikh Delawar as saying. The Chinese ambassador, while praising the progress in the mining sector of the country, emphasized that his country is committed to providing training for Afghan technical personnel in the mining sector.
