China extends $50 million donation to Afghanistan

Chinese officials have announced their unwavering support to Afghanistan, stating that China has so far provided $50 million in assistance to the country across various sectors. Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, China’s defense Minister revealed that Beijing contributed nearly $50 million to Afghanistan. He further emphasized China’s commitment to bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan without interfering in its internal affairs. The Chinese military official also added that Beijing has initiated worldwide coordination in relation to the Afghan issue. “Regarding the Afghanistan issue, China has initiated international coordination. We have either hosted or participated in several meetings related to Afghanistan. We have consistently stated China’s position on the Afghan issue. We will continue our efforts to bring an end to the instability in Afghanistan or restore stability in the country without interfering in its internal affairs,” Li Shangfu said. China has also played a key role in the reconstruction of public utility projects in Afghanistan in the past. In provinces such as Nangarhar and Mazar-i-Sharif, China has been involved in dozens of infrastructure projects, including the construction of canals and roads and investments in the country’s mining sector. These notable examples highlight the beneficial work that China has carried out in Afghanistan from the past until now. According to several economists and political analysts, China has had close relations with the Islamic Emirate and aims further strengthen its ties with the government. They believe that China has entered into dozens of agreements with the Islamic Emirate and has actively engaged in the construction of major projects, fostering necessary cooperation. In an interview with The Kabul Times correspondent, several political analysts and economists stated that China is interested in new investments in Afghanistan’s mining sector, unlike in the past, and seeks to establish global relations with the Islamic Emirate. It is evident from the statements of the Chinese Defense Minister that China intends to view Afghanistan in a positive light and according to the Defense Minister, views a more modern Afghanistan. Some experts believe that China is seeking modern and inclusive governance in Afghanistan. “China wants an inclusive and more modern government in Afghanistan. In this way, China believes that Afghanistan will become stable. Of course, Afghanistan will become stable if China and other countries in the world want Afghanistan to be stable compared to the past. We also seek their cooperation to rebuild Afghanistan with stability,” said Nazim Ahmad, a political affairs expert. Hashim, another citizen of Afghanistan, says that China has economic and political objectives in Afghanistan, but China never does anything that is not in its interest. According to him, relations and communications should be bilateral between countries, although Afghanistan requires economic and political cooperation in its current situation. China should provide favorable opportunities for the people of Afghanistan in exchange for their benefits so that the Afghan people can also benefit from the assistance of that country. Furthermore, the IEA’s spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, emphasizes China’s practical steps toward Afghanistan. Mujahid stated that we want this policy to continue for the sake of stability and security in Afghanistan, which is also significant for the region. He said that regional and neighboring countries should understand the importance of this mater in the country and support the Islamic Emirate and Afghanistan. China’s President Xi Jinping previously stated at the “China-Central Asia” conference that he is committed to bringing peace and reconstruction to Afghanistan through coordinated efforts among neighboring countries. It is worth noting that the Islamic Emirate has made significant efforts to ensure stability in Afghanistan. The level of security present in Afghanistan today did not exist in the past. Therefore, not only China but all other countries willing to establish good relations with the Islamic Emirate and can resume their relations and recognize the IEA. Shukria Kohistani
