Ceremony held to inaugurate China’s funded Kabul University Auditorium

KABUL, August 1 (Xinhua) — A grand ceremony was held Sunday in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, to inaugurate the recently built comprehensive teaching building and auditorium with the financial support of the Chinese government.

Wang Yu, Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Abdul Baqi Haqqani, acting Minister of Higher Education of the Afghan interim government, and Osama Aziz, the Kabul University Rector attended the grand ceremony held on July 31.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Want Yu said that the modern teaching building, funded by the Chinese government for the Kabul University, has been completed within five years, which is a symbol of Sino-Afghan friendly cooperation in the field of education.
For a long time, China has tried to carry out extensive and in-depth cooperation with Afghanistan in the field of education, he said.

At present, thousands of Afghan students are studying in China and nearly 200 local students are studying at the Confucius Institute of the Kabul University, the ambassador added.

“I hope that when they complete their studies, they will contribute to the friendly cooperation between China and Afghanistan,” the ambassador hoped.

In the future, China will continue to provide support and assistance to Afghanistan and continue to expand cooperation in various fields, including education as it did in the past.

Afghan acting Minister of Higher Education, Abdul Baqi Haqqani expressed gratitude to China for assisting the construction of the teaching building at Kabul University.
He said Afghanistan has just emerged from the quagmire of years of war and is now facing many problems such as economic development and social reconstruction.

“Higher education is an area that the Afghan interim government attaches great importance to. Only with the development of education can the country make progress,” said Haqqani.

He hoped China to continue providing assistance to Afghanistan in the future and carry out more cooperation with Afghanistan in this field.

Osama Aziz, the Kabul University Rector also spoke at the ceremony and said that he was very pleased to hold the opening ceremony in the newly built auditorium, which is the best one in Afghanistan at present.

“Kabul University is deeply grateful for China’s long-term assistance and support,” he said.
The new teaching building and auditorium will be used for graduate students of various departments to receive good education and contribute to national construction and cooperation between Afghanistan and China, he said.
