Band-e-Timor canal of Kandahar to be reconstructed

A team of the Afghanistan Ministry of Water and Energy has arrived in Kandahar to conduct a survey on the construction of Maiwand district’s Band-e-Timor big canal. Head of Kandahar’s Arghandab River basin Mullah Sayed Mohammad Sharafat and his accompanied technical team has also met the respective ministry’s team. According to the provincial head of Arghandab River basin, Band-e-Timor’s big canal that had been constructed centuries has 45 km in length and irrigates 120,000 acres of agricultural fields. The canal is started from the joint point of Dorai and Arghandab Rivers and extended to end of Zherai district of Kandahar and to Helmand. Head of Arghandab River basin further said that most parts of the canal has been destructed on the course of past years and its various parts need to be completely constructed, adding that a technical team of Arghandab River basin department had previously conducted a survey. He stressed that once the survey was done, it would be soon shared with the ministry of water and energy and reconstruction work on the canal would be soon started. Nimatullah Ziarma
