Balkh police arrested more than 1,100 individuals last year

MZAR-i-SHARIF: Police in the country’s northern province of Balkh, have arrested 1,143 individuals over different criminal activities over the past year, the provincial police chief said Sunday. In a press conference, Balkh Police Spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said that 1143 individuals including 133 women have been arrested on the charge of kidnapping, human trafficking, moral corruption, murder and other crimes and their files have been referred to the justice and judicial organs for further investigations.  About 344 acres of poppy lands have also been destroyed by the provincial Counter-Narcotics Department and over 9,900 drug addicts have been rounded up and taken to the provincial drug treatment center. According to him, 232 drug traffickers, have been arrested and their files referred to the justice and judicial organs. During the past one year thousands of Kilograms of various types of drugs have been seized in the province, the official said. Also, a large amount of heavy and light weapons and ammunition have been discovered and seized by the relevant department. The Kabul Times
