Bagram airfield to turn into economic corridor

KABUL: The Ministry of Economic of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) said the other day that Bagram military airbase will be turned into an economic center.
“Due to its largest area and proper location, the Bagram airfield is suitable for economic zone and the primary investigation for launching practical work, has been completed,” the statement quoted the technical deputy economic minister Abdul Latif Nazari as saying. Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment welcomed the plan of the ministry of economy and said that the air base was located close to the country’s industrial parks; therefore, turning it into an economic zone will provide ground for the development of the country’s domestic products.
“Bagram is both near to the factories and industrial parks. There are two or three parks located in this area. Besides, there are fruits and vegetables produced in Kapisa, Parwan and Panjshir provinces,” said Khanjan Alokozai, a member of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment. The U.S.-led forces used the Bagram airport as their military purposes from 2001 to 2021 and lots of military operations had been conducted from there. The Kabul Times
