Ataullah Omari, Roza Otunbayeva discuss upcoming Doha meeting, narcotics

KABUL: The acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Mawlavi Ataullah Omari, in a meeting, with Roza Otunbayeva, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), discussed the upcoming 3rd Doha meeting on Afghanistan, the ministry said in a statement the other day. Speaking about the swift measures and efforts of the Islamic Emirate to bring poppy cultivation to zero in Afghani stan, Mawlavi Omari asked the international organizations to cooperate with the current Islamic system in the creation of poppy cultivation for Afghan farmers in the country, according to the statement. “We hope that the United Nations and other active institutions in the field of agriculture will further focus in the international meetings on the introduction of alternative poppy cultivation and the support of Afghan farmers because the Islamic Emirate has banned poppy cultivation across the country,” the statement quoted Omari as saying. Meanwhile, Roza Otunbayeva said that in the third Doha meeting, the issues of the private sector, banking, and drugs in Afghanistan will be discussed, in which 25 countries, three international institutions, and representatives of the Asian Bank and the Development Bank will participate the event. Otunbayeva stressed the participation of the representative of the Islamic Emirate in the Doha meeting is important to introduce the alternative of poppy cultivation and attract the attention of donors in this field.
