Asia Cup 2022 to kick off in UAE

15th edition of Asia cup that was postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 is set to be held from August 27 to September 11 in United Arab Emirates(UAE). It was actually planned to be held in Sri Lanka but due to political and economic crisis, the decision was taken to shift it to UAE. 5 teams including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are in the tournament already with countries as UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, Hong Kong playing group level matches to qualify. In group stage matches, Afghanistan will play its first match against Sri Lanka on Saturday, August 27 and second match against Bangladesh on Tuesday, August 30.
The rest of the matches will be decided after some progress.
The defending champion India has won the title 7 times, Sri Lanka 5 times and Pakistan 2 times. It is to be mentioned that Asia Cup was previously played in ODI format while it is the second time it has been converted to T20I format.
