ARCS with 80 years of humanitarian services in Afghanistan history

The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), which was founded to assist vulnerable people who are affected by natural and non – natural disasters, expects the people that during one week of the year (special week) they should financially and spiritually support and strengthen the organization so that this institution can further develop and expand its humanitarian activities.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the world’s largest humanitarian network. The Movement is neutral and impartial, and provides protection and assistance to people affected by disasters and conflicts. 24th Mizan ’16th October’ is the start of special Week of the Red Crescent Movement.
Marking the week of the Red Crescent is actually celebrating the day when a new page was opened in the history of humanitarian aid and assistance in the world. In fact, the Red Crescent is considered as a neutral and impartial humanitarian organization in different countries of the world.
The Fundamental Principles are an expression of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement’s values and practices. They were developed based on the Movement’s experience responding to suffering and needs over the previous century. The Fundamental Principles are at once operational and aspirational. They serve both as a guide for action and as the Movement’s common identity and purpose.
The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), which was founded to assist vulnerable people who are affected by natural and non – natural disasters, expects the people that during one week of the year (special week) they should financially and spiritually support and strengthen the organization so that this institution can further develop and expand its humanitarian activities.
The organization treats a number of children with ventricular septal defect (VSD), broken bones and severe burns every year. Establishing emergency shelters for feeding and providing aid, emergency camps for providing drinking water and sanitation services, finding family members who have suffered, education, providing a wide range of first aid and medical care to people in emergency situations and others are parts of the programs planned and implemented by the organization.
As a national society in Afghanistan, the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has responded to disasters in all over the country since its inception in 1934 through its humanitarian services considering the seventh accepted principles of the movement (Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary services, Unity, Universality).
Marking the special Week of the Afghan Red Crescent is aimed to give information about the society’s activities to the people and collect donations to help people in need. According to the ARCS’s officials, the Afghan Red Crescent Society receives humanitarian aid from other international organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations, but this aid is not enough in any way.
As partners, the ICRC and IFRC are the different members of the Movement support communities in becoming stronger and safer through a variety of development projects and humanitarian activities. The Movement also works in cooperation with governments, donors and other aid organizations to assist vulnerable people around the world.
It is worth mentioning that the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has responded to disasters in all over Afghanistan for the past 80 years.
