ARA’s $12 million revenue in Uzbekistan due to banking problems

Officials for Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) in accountability program to the nation by pointing that the railway process has been now changed to Afghani system as all incomes of the railway contract between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan once collected in Uzbekistan now collected by Afghanistan railway authority, but unfortunately $12 million revenue of the authority is still in Uzbekistan due to banking problems.
Answering a question asked by The Kabul Times correspondent about the country’s current railway line, director of Afghanistan railway authority said, “Afghanistan has 230km railway line and currently nearly 4,000 people are directly working in unloading goods and services section in Hairatan and Aqina railway lines”.
According to Afghanistan railway authority’s information, protection and maintenance of all equipment and installations of the respective authority, visits of leading body of the railway authority to Uzbekistan and Iran and resumption of the incomplete projects are part of achievements of the country’s railway authority in the past one year.
“Afghanistan railway authority has been made necessary coordination with Iranian ministry of railway on key issues particularly absorption of Afghan cadres and starting the incomplete projects in the past one year,” director of the country’s railway authority said, adding that efforts were underway to complete and open the 3rd phase of Herat – Khawaf railway line.
Officials of the country’s railway authority asserted that efforts were underway to complete the Aqina – Andkhoy railway line, maintain necessary coordination with both Uzbekistan and Pakistan as it was determined that technical debate was to start between delegations of the two respective countries to discuss the Afghan Trans project connecting Central Asia with South Asia.
A spokesperson to Afghanistan railway authority by pointing to maintaining security of Afghanistan railway lines and getting $2.25 million discount in the contract of the Afghan-Trans said that both were considered as of the significant achievements of the authority. He said development of Afghanization of the railway process, completion of the 3rd phase of Khawaf – Herat railway project, completion of Aqina – Andkhoy project and convincing international donors to invest on Afghanistan railway lines and others were a range of future plans of Afghanistan railway authority. Besides, the country’s railway authority is also planning to reconstruction railway stations as the revenue of the railway lines is going up.
