Appointing special envoy for Afghanistan not acceptable, Shaheen

DOHA: The head of the Political Office of the Islamic Emirate in Qatar, Suhail Shaheen, in an interview with Japan’s NHK news channel, has once again emphasized that the selection of a special representative of the United Nations for Afghanistan is not acceptable. Shaheen said that this representative may try to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and impose some decisions on Afghanistan. The selection of the United Nations Special Representative for Afghanistan is one of the key recommendations of the detailed United Nations report on the independent assessment of the situation in Afghanistan. The recommendations section of this detailed UN report states that a special UN envoy should be appointed to focus on diplomacy between international and Afghan partners and the implementation of intraAfghan dialogue. The selection of a special representative was one of the main issues discussed at the Doha meeting on the 18th and 19th of February, hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The Kabul Times
