Ancient relic found in Hong Kong to be returned soon to Afghanistan

KABUL: An ancient relic, dating back between third and fourth century of Buddhist era, has been handed over to Prof. Mohammad Rasul Bawary, the Deputy Minister of Information and Culture on Cultural Affairs who is visiting Hong Kong, BNA reported Sunday.
According to the experts, the relic has been found in the Shutrak area of Afghanistan years ago, said the agency.
The source quoted Mohammad Saber Momand, the spokesman of the Ministry of Information and Culture who is also on an official visit to Hong Kong of China, as saying the deputy minister, while taking over the ancient relic, thanked Green Xine who has submitted the relic and said the move would be appreciated through the diplomatic system of the country.
He said Afghanistan was committed to return the entire relics smuggled from the country abroad.
Xine said in a briefing the relic had been found many years ago, but he found no proper opportunity to return it to its home country, the agency quoted.
The relic had also been registered with the UNESCO World Dairy Book and in the album of the national museum of Afghanistan. The relic has been said to be returned to Afghanistan soon and displayed in the country’s national museum.
