Afghanistan National Cricket Team secures victory over Sri Lanka

Afghanistan achieved a stunning and remark able victory in the One Day International (ODI) World Cup series by defeating Sri Lanka. The match, which took place on a Monday in the city of Pune, India, saw the Afghan national team’s captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, deciding to bat first after winning the toss. Sri Lanka managed to score 241 runs, losing all their players in 49.3 overs, setting a target of 242 runs for Afghanistan. In the bowling department, Afghanistan’s Fazul Haq Farooqi took four wickets, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman took two, and Azmatullah Omarzai and Rashid Khan each took one wicket. Despite the early loss of their opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan successfully reached the set target in 45.2 overs and secured their third victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup. In the batting performance, Hazratullah Zazai scored 74 runs, Rahmat Shah made 62, Hashmatullah Shahidi contributed 58 runs, and Ibrahim Zadran added 39 runs, respectively. Farooqi was named the best player in this match. With this win, Afghanistan moved up to the fifth position in the points table of the tournament, surpassing Pakistan, England, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands. Afghanistan is scheduled to compete against the Netherlands on Friday. Prior to this, Afghanistan had also defeated England and Pakistan, and they are set to face Netherlands, South Africa and Australia in upcoming matches. This victory signifies Afghanistan’s growing influence in the world of cricket.
