Afghan investigators to travel to Europe over abuse allegations on women’s football team

KABUL: Afghan investigators have completed domestic probe over allegations of abuse in women’s football team and are set to travel to Europe for further probe, a spokesman for the country’s attorney general said Sunday.
The investigation began after senior figures linked to the Afghan women’s team had alleged in November that some players had been sexually and physically abused by Afghanistan Football Federation officials.
Five officials including AFF president Keramuddin Karim were suspended by Afghan authorities with world soccer governing body FIFA imposing a 90-day ban on Karim.
Jamshed Rasooli, a spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office, said on Sunday that the suspension on AFF’s deputy, Mohammad Yousuf Kargar, had been lifted. He said that the probe team had completed its domestic investigation and was set to travel to several European countries for face-to-face interview with entities and individuals. The official said that the team had contacted alleged victims and Hummel, a sportswear company which ended sponsorship of Afghan football federation following abuse claims.
