Acting Foreign Minister Muttaqi meets Iranian delegation

KABUL: A delegation of seven-members of the Iranian House of Representatives led by Jawad Karimi Qudosi met with the Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, here in Kabul, the ministry said in a statement Sunday. The meeting discussed issues of mutual interests including security, counter-narcotics, prevention of drugs trafficking, protection of borders and trade and transit, the statement said. Welcoming them, FM Mawlavi Muttaqi said that after the resumption of power by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), countrywide security has been ensured, and Afghan security forces were able to eradicate the menaces of Daesh. “Complete security in Afghanistan is not only in the interests of Afghanistan but also in the interests of the region and the world, adding that the IEA has taken effective measures to counter-narcotics, bringing poppy cultivation to almost zero,” the statement quoted Muttaqi as saying. Muttaqi also said that during the previous IEA ruling, Afghani stan had only thousands of drug addicts, but during the course of the last 20 years of occupation, the number surged to 4 million people, adding that, we have rehabilitated tens of thousands of drug addicts in last few months, and the drug addicts treatment process will be continued, the statement added. The minister according to the statement, went on as saying that trade and transit are ongoing with the countries of the region, including the neighboring countries, and Afghanistan is now becoming a hub of trade for the countries, reiterating that Afghanistan serves as a good market for Iran’s industrial goods; therefore, it is necessary for Afghanistan and Iran to bring about more facilities in terms of trade and transit and take maximum advantage of this opportunity. The delegation of the House of Representatives said that the two sides should work together and find a solution for issues regarding the prevention of drug smuggling, border management, and prevention of the movement of people without valid documentation, the statement further added. They also said that Iran is ready to share its experience with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in different areas. Mohammad Nabi Naibi
