A glance at life of Shaheed Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour

(Part V)

A glance at life of Shaheed Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour When former deputy of the Islamic Emirate Mullah Obaidullah Akhund was detained in Pakistan in 2007, late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid appointed Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour as the second deputy of the Islamic Emirate. Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar was still the first deputy of the Islamic Emirate. Mullah Mansour was also instructed to continue as head of the southern zone as Kandahar was still important for the Islamic Emirate. When deputy of the IEA Mullah Obaidullah Akhund was martyred in Pakistani police custody and Mullah Beradar was detained by joint US-Pakistan forces in Pakistan in 2010, former Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate late Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid appointed Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour as deputy and general director of the IEA all affairs. It was the time when U.S. former President Obama had deployed more than 30,000 troops in Afghanistan and the Islamic Emirate’s jihad and armed resistance against the U.S. were facing with lots of challenges as over 100,000 US-led NATO forces in cooperation with hundreds of thousands of Afghan security forces equipped with modern weapons were engaged in fighting with the Islamic Emirate mujahidin in various parts of the country. Increasing military and political pressures on the Islamic Emirate mujahidin as well as martyring a large number of the IEA jihadi commanders and detaining the IEA officials had all added to challenges for the Islamic Emirate. During this critical situation, late Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid tasked Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour to take all responsibility in fighting against the US-led NATO forces in the country. After taking all the responsibility, Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour with the close cooperation of the IEA leading council organized the resistance and led the mujahidin in a better way. With continued efforts and better management of Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour, the 2010 year changed to one of the years during which the US-led NATO forces received heavy casualties. The Islamic Emirate’s mujahidin conducted heavy and effective operations against the US-led NATO forces in various parts of the country, where 770 foreign troops were killed and many areas were freed from the presence of the US-led NATO and Afghan forces. When the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid passed away on 24th April 2013, key members of the Islamic Emirate leading council, ulamas and dignitaries all selected Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour as their emir and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate. As 2013 was considered as the last year of the US-led NATO forces’ defeat in fighting with the Islamic Emirate mujahidin, key members of the IEA leading council and a number of ulamas decided to keep the death of IEA former Supreme Leader hidden because the US-led NATO member countries had decided to start withdrawing their troops during 2014; therefore, it was a decisive year for both sides. The news of the death of the IEA’s former Supreme Leader was kept hidden until 30 July 2015. On 30 July 2015, the Islamic Emirate leading council officially announced the demise of the late Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid. Following the announcement, Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour gave full authorization to the IEA leading council, ulamas and dignitaries to select the IEA next leader. All key members of the leading council, ulamas and dignitaries selected Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. All key members both military and civilian and the country’s national, academic and jihadi figures sent their consent through voice and written messages to the IEA publication department and their messages were later published through the IEA official site
