23 Afghan prisoners released from Iranian jails

ZARANJ: A total of 23 Afghan refugees earlier prisoned by Iranian officials, have recently been released and returned home, the provincial Foreign Affairs Department said in a statement Monday. “As a result of the efforts of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Tehran, 23 Afghans which had been prisoned on charge of not having legal travel documents, have been released from Zahidan’s jail of that country,” the statement quoted Director of the provincial Foreign Affairs Department Mawlavi Yar Mohammad Haqyar as saying. Based on the reports, as a result of the efforts of the officials of the Islamic Emirate, as many as 54 Afghan inmates have been released from Iranian jails in the past two months and returned to their home country, the statement said. After the takeover of the country by the IEA thousands of Afghan prisoners who had earlier been prisoned on charge of not having legal documents have recently been released from the jails of Iran and Pakistan.
