10 check dams constructed in Ghazni, ministry

KABUL: Ten check dams worth 40 million Afghani (some 557,356 U.S. dollars) have been constructed in the country’s central province of Ghazni, the Ministry of Water and Energy said in a statement the other day. The acting Water and Energy Minister Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, while addressing a gathering on this occasion, said the dams have been constructed with the financial support of the ministry to store rain and snow water, mitigate floods, irrigate crops, and replenish underground water sources in the province, according to the statement. The water and energy acting minister assured that his-led ministry remains committed to implementing additional projects within the available resources in the province, the statement added. The people of the region expressed satisfaction and gratitude for the valuable initiative and the ministry’s services and asked the leadership of the Islamic Emirate to pay enough attention in launching development projects in the province. This is to be noted that thousands of check dams have so far been constructed to store rain and snow water across the country. The Kabul Times
